Social Styles and Communication

What is your Social Style? Is it Amiable, Analytical, Driving or Expressive? On this page share what important insights you gained during Dr. Weber's presentation on Social Styles and Communication. You might talk about what you learned about yourself, about the needs of the different styles, about how this new knowledge will change the way you approach interactions with staff, parents or students, etc. Feel free to reiterate the needs, orientation and growth action of each style to reinforce our understanding of these new concepts.

  1. I took away many important learnings from this experience. Although my points classified me as a driver, I know I am also analytical. I tend to analyze things to death looking for the best solution or approach. Although it's good to go with the best plan, sometimes the plan doesn't really matter as much as just doing SOMETHING. I think drivers often just want to do the SOMETHING, which is great because then things get done. I have committed to not being quite as obsessed with doing everything the very best way possible and instead accept that there are many different ways to get to a destination, and sometimes you just have to get on the road and get there! I also came away with a greater appreciation of how important all social styles are to the effective functioning of a group.

  2. I am analytical and very much so, which can be a challenge when I need to make a snap decision. I, and especially my wife have learned that I can not make any kind of decision with out mulling it over. There are advantages as well. When it comes to ABC calls I am very prepared and have taken an exhaustive look at the data before I even speak to the student. And because of it it takes me more time for me to do my work as well because I need to take the time to examine what needs to be done. I am generally Deliberate and meticulous. Case in point. It took me about ten minutes to write this blog post. I had to read through it a couple of times and adjust grammar and clarifty points before I was satisfied. :P
